Our exhibition has been slightly altered as a member of the public objected to Constable’s Haywain being co-opted to the anti-nuclear cause. The library not wanting to court any controversy insisted that they had to take the offending poster down. However, Carolyn Dowson has artfully rejigged the exhibition to show two additional hard hitting posters by Peter Kennard (neither of which feature Constable, Turner, Stubbs or even Gainsborough masterpieces).

The Library has also added a helpful little card to explain “The views expressed in displays in Hertfordshire Libraries are not necessarily those of Hertfordshire County Council.”
The exhibition is in place for another week until 11 June.
